3 ways to reduce your toxic load

One step at a time. That’s one of the first things I tell my new clients when they start their Low Tox Lifestyle. It’s easy to get bogged down and overwhelmed with this journey so you have to keep it simple and consistent in order to be successful (and not lose your mind). If you are new in this journey, here are 3 simple and free things you can do right now that will help lower your toxic load:

  1. Ditch the shoes. Dr. Gerba, a microbiologist at the University of Arizona (BEAR DOWN!), conducted a study and found that 96% of shoes contain fecal matter and are dirtier than a toilet seat. There’s no way I want those shoes tracking in that gunk and unwanted toxins into my home to then be transferred to my rugs, kiddos toys and bodies, and who knows where else. No thank you - leave them at the door.

  2. Open up. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that 60% of homes are hazardous to the occupants’ health and that indoor air pollution is up to one hundred times more polluted than outdoor air. This is because of all of the chemicals we put in our air through candles, air fresheners, personal care products (this is a whole separate topic!!), etc. so it’s important we open up those windows and circulate some fresher air into our home regularly.

  3. Get moving. Our body is amazing and is designed to eliminate toxins through various methods and movement is an incredible way to get your blood flowing and help these key organs do their job. I aim for 30 minutes of movement each day. Sometimes that’s walking while listening to a podcast, stretching and yoga while watching a show, or more intense workouts when I’m feeling spicy.

Do one, two, or three of these tips today and then celebrate the win. This is a long game so take it one step at a time and celebrate the wins.
